Ayumi Shigematsu's works are created using the pâte de verre technique, where glass powder is packed into a plaster mold and then melted in a kiln to form intricate textures and complex shapes. This technique allows for the creation of works with a refined quality and delicate form. Shigematsu draws inspiration from nature and everyday landscapes, creating pieces that feature flowers, plants, and scenery as motifs. These works convey a quiet beauty and elegance, providing the viewer with a sense of calm. The transparency, color changes, and the delicate shapes of the glass are accentuated when light passes through, enhancing the serene and graceful qualities of the pieces. By skillfully manipulating glass, Shigematsu¡Çs works bring together beautiful designs and high-level techniques, creating a delicate world between light and shadow. As a result, her pieces captivate viewers and leave a lasting impression.
