Ceramic artist Yoshinari Gohara trained under the Bizen masters Toshu Yamamoto and Yuichi Yamamoto, and during his apprenticeship he independently researched the techniques of classical Bizen ware. After returning to his hometown of Moji, Kitakyushu, he began working independently in 2003. In 2007, he built his own anagama kiln in Kitakyushu and moved his studio there. He focuses on Bizen ware, exploring the character of clay and the effects of wood firing with a particular interest in classical Bizen ceramics.
